Kim Lehman – Kim Reynolds: Her Record Speaks For Itself

The question the grassroots will be wondering is if Kim Reynolds, the Lieutenant Governor pick by former Governor Terry Branstad, is or isn’t a true conservative? Her record stands before her.

Well let’s see….she sponsored a bill determining when life begins that acknowledged the rights, privileges, and protection of the unborn.  Pass with flying colors—she IS pro-life.

She sponsored a bill to put in internet filters in public libraries to protect children. Pass

She sponsored a bill requiring drug testing for people applying for or receiving state assistance. The “Ur-in or Ur-out” system so that we don’t have to fund the drug addicted welfare crowd.  Pass

She sponsored a bill that would give Iowan’s the right to choose their health care, which is especially valuable as we fall under the dictatorship of the Federal Obamacare.  Pass

She sponsored a bill that would require the placement of a right-to-work notice to be placed on state property and in state publicans.  Pass

O.Kay Henderson – Branstad picks a running mate: Kim Reynolds

At 8:50 a.m. Terry Branstad’s campaign sent out a text message on the Branstad 2010 Twitter account, letting supporters who signed up for the Twitter alert that State Senator Kim Reynolds is his choice for a lieutenant governor/running mate. This keeps a string going.

A previous tweet sent a picture, showing the “stage” for today’s announcement. Branstad’s campaign will hold a news conference in a conference room at the Ankeny airport.  The room is utilitarian, with a wood-like lectern at the south end.  A blue and white Branstad sign is taped on the front, and a field of 12 signs have been taped on the wall behind to provide a photo back-drop, partially obscuring the window that is behind.

At exactly 9 a.m., Terry & Chris Branstad walked into the room, with Reynolds walking behind.

“Since our victory in the June primary, I’ve given a lot of thought and consideration as to who should join me on this journey,” Branstad said, adding there was “no shortage” of qualified Republicans for the post he’s now asking Reynolds to… read more  →

Tom Beaumont – Terry Branstad: Kim Reynolds “a rising, talented conservative”

Former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad described Sen. Kim Reynolds as “a dynamic and dedicated public servant” in selecting the freshman Osceola legislator as his choice for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket this fall.

Branstad said Reynolds “shares my core values on the key issues” and “shares my passion for leading Iowa’s comeback.”

“Here we have a rising, talented conservative who has overcome adversity in her own life, who has been successful at the local level and in the state Senate,” Branstad said in introducing her.

Reynolds, 50, thanked Branstad and promised her dedication in the more than four months of campaigning ahead.

“I know you know I’m a hard worker,” she told Branstad. “And I give you my word that I will work day and night to do everything I can to make sure that you’re the next governor of this great state of Iowa.”

With just two years in the Iowa Senate under her belt, Reynolds also said she was ready to become governor.

“I know that’s an important role of the lieutenant governor,” she said. “And I… read more  →

IOWA POLITICS EXPOSED: Culver's new attack video takes distortion to a new low

Chet Culver’s got a new video out, called “Eight Pay Raises”. It tries to meld the “cook the books” ideas that we’ve already refuted here with a new theme, saying that Terry Branstad as governor took eight pay raises while the state was in trouble. I know that these are political ads, but the Culver campaign’s taking it lower than I’ve seen in ads before. Read the full post here.

Caffeinated Thoughts: Iowa Governor Race Ad War II: Branstad 2 Culver 0

Today another volley took place between Governor Chet Culver and former Governor Terry Branstad.  James Lynch of The Mason City Globe-Gazette wrote that a 69 word ad by the Branstad campaign elicited a 630 word “fact check” by the Culver/Judge Campaign.

In a 30-second spot entitled “Really,” Branstad, Iowa’s governor for 16 years and now seeking a fifth term, responds to Culver’s criticism of his budgeting practices. The ad compares the four-term Republican’s record to Culver’s first-term record. Culver, according to the ad, has “has spent $2.5 billion more than he’s taken in, creating a nearly billion-dollar deficit and forcing a $500 million property tax hike.”

The Iowa Republican – Who Will Branstad's Lieutenant Governor Be?

Former Governor Terry Branstad is expected to announce his selection before the Republican state convention this coming Saturday.  With his selection imminent, the potential list of candidates has been whittled down to just five or six names, with probably only three of them being seriously considered.

Yesterday, Tom Beaumont of the Des Moines Register published a list of potential candidates in the mix to be Terry Branstad’s running mate.  The list included Jeff Lamberti, Christian Fong, Kim Reynolds, Matt Strawn, and Jim Gibbons.

Beaumont’s article focused mostly on two individuals – Jeff Lamberti, a former congressional candidates and State Senator, and Jim Gibbon, the former Iowa State wrestling coach and unsuccessful 3rd District congressional candidate.  Beaumont indicated that Gibbons’ name was a new addition to Branstad’s list, but both he and Lamberti were the featured candidates in TheIowaRepublican.com’s article on the subject over a week ago.

Many have speculated that Branstad would select a running mate from eastern Iowa, but all signs seem to point to him selecting a running mate who is well known in central Iowa.  Bob Vander Plaats… read more  →

OBRADOVICH: Scheffler: Conservatives should reconsider sitting out

…He says pro-family conservatives have two choices — Terry Branstad or Chet Culver. He says Republicans who sit out in November are effectively choosing Culver. “It’s not a perfect world in terms of the candidates out there,” he said. “Social conservatives need to think this one through pretty clearly before they decide they’re not going vote.”…

The Iowa Republican – Iowa GOP confident and professional

Over 150 people gathered in Ames at Congressman Tom Latham’s campaign headquarters on Tuesday afternoon to welcome four of the six Republican candidates running for statewide executive office.

It was the final stop on the kickoff leg of what will be a multi-county, summer-long “Iowa’s Comeback” tour.

Topping the list of candidates is gubernatorial nominee Terry Branstad. “This is our year,” he said emphatically. “November will bring a great victory for our party and a return to sound and responsible government for our state.”

The four-term former governor was visibly energized as he appeared with newly minted Secretary of State nominee Matt Schulz, State Treasurer nominee Dave Jamison, and Attorney General nominee Brenna Findley. State Auditor David Vaudt and Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey could not attend the event.

In his seven minute speech, Branstad only briefly mentioned his own race against Democratic incumbent Chet Culver. Most of his remarks were about the possibility of a complete Republican takeover of state government.

“I am so proud of this great team of candidates that I get to run with,” he said.… read more  →

KAY HENDERSON: Palin endorses Branstad

…I’m told by Branstad’s campaign staff that Palin herself called Branstad’s campaign office right before she posted her endorsement on Twitter & Facebook.  She talked with the man who answers the phones at campaign HQ, and the receptionist passed the message along to Branstad.
