Branstad statement on the passing of former Iowa House Speaker Bill Harbor
(GRINNELL) – Former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad today released the following statement upon learning of the passing of former speaker of the Iowa House, Bill Harbor:
“My thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s friends and family. Bill was a dedicated public servant who served as a state representative, speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives and later as chief clerk of the Iowa House of Representatives. He was a great mentor to young legislators like me. He was a conscientious and capable leader who will be missed. Iowa is a better place today because of his service.”

(URBANDALE) – Governor Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink today released the following statement following the dismal report on I-JOBS released earlier today:
“These are short term construction jobs, not the long-term jobs Gov. Culver promised when he proposed I-Jobs. $1.7 billion for short term construction jobs is not a great return on investment for Iowa taxpayers. In fact, these short term jobs are costing Iowans over $240,000 a piece.
“Construction employment in Iowa is actually down 2,700 since the I-Jobs bill was passed and nearly 20,000 Iowans have been added to the rolls of the unemployed since this program began.

Branstad adds $2.1 million this quarter – Tops $5.5 million total raised – Donors approach 12,000 – Cash on hand more than triples
Campaign raises over $2.1 million in just six weeks
(URBANDALE) – Campaign fundraising reports filed today by the Governor Branstad 2010 campaign show more than $2.1 million raised in six weeks, the largest amount the campaign has raised during any reporting period to date. Additionally, the campaign’s cash on hand of more than $1.5 million is the largest balance reported during any period.
This brings the total amount of funds raised since the campaign’s inception to more than $5.5 million.
“This strong fundraising period is evidence of the excitement and momentum enjoyed by this campaign,” said Governor Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink. “Everywhere Gov. Branstad and Sen. Reynolds travel in this state, they are greeted with eager, enthusiastic support that is ready for a proven leader and effective manager in the governor’s office.”

A Democratic operative has owned up to trying to disparage Iowa Republican gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad by linking him to President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an effort to undermine his candidacy against a more conservative primary opponent.
Branstad defeated his Tea Party-backed opponent Bob VanderPlaats in the June 8 primary and now leads — in some polls by double-digits — in the race against incumbent Democratic Gov. Chet Culver.
That head-to-head matchup apparently worried the former Iowa Democratic state party chairman Rob Tully, who formed Iowans for Responsible Government, which organized the ads to paint the former governor as a friend of Democrats and give VanderPlaats a leg up in the primary.
One ad by the group said Branstad, who governed from 1983-1999, “would make Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi proud.”
“When it comes to health care, Terry Branstad sounds a lot like Barack Obama,” a separate mailer reads.
The more than $770,000 spent blasting Branstad came from the Washington-based Democratic Governors Association, whose political director Raymond Glendening maintained that Branstad is a liberal who… read more →
