Ringgold County: $17,655 in I-JOBS projects…And $2.8 million in I-JOBS debt

Ringgold County: $17,655 in I-JOBS projects…

And $2.8 million in I-JOBS debt

(URBANDALE) – Yesterday, the Culver/Judge campaign launched its “Demand an Answer” campaign with a release highlighting the $17,655 in I-JOBS funding Ringgold County received – on the very day Terry Branstad was there listening to the concerns of its residents.

Find the Culver/Judge release here: http://www.iowapolitics.com/index.iml?Article=207026

However, the total share of actual I-JOBS debt Ringgold County is shackled with equals $2.8 million.

“It’s disingenuous for the Culver campaign to claim Terry Branstad is ‘against’ Ringgold County on a day he is there, meeting with residents of the county, during the exact time when Chet Culver shackles them with a $2.8 million debt mandate from Des Moines.” said Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink. “This is a continuing pattern of deception and misinformation in which this administration continues to engage. Lobbing press releases and debt from Des Moines is not real leadership.”

Here are the figures:

I-JOBS debt:             $1,700,000,000

Iowa Population:    3,007,856 (US Census Bureau, 2009:http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/19000.html)

Per person I-JOBS debt:  $565.18

Ringgold County Population:  4,944 (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/19/19159.html)… read more  →

Culver’s misleading release hid $3 billion in debt

(URBANDALE) – State Auditor David Vaudt today released a report showing Iowa’s debt level at 14 times the amount Gov. Culver asserted last week. The report, found HERE, reveals Iowa’s true debt levels, including:

  • Iowa’s debt is $3.2 billion
  • Iowa’s debt is $1,050 per capita
  • A family of four has more than $4,000 in debt
  • The real debt is 14 times larger than Gov. Culver’s misleading release

“Gov. Culver deliberately released a deceptive and misleading report in an attempt to hide Iowa’s true debt,” said Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink. “Iowans are shackled with a debt load that is in reality 14 times greater than what Gov. Culver asserted it was just last week.

“Chet Culver should look in the mirror and decide if he will continue to mislead Iowans with just 12 weeks left in his campaign, or if he will come clean with Iowans and attempt to honestly deal with the state’s finances and this crushing generational debt. The choice is his.”

Branstad camp welcomes education comparisons with Culver

Branstad has legacy of keeping his promises and lowering property taxes

(URBANDALE) – Gov. Culver’s campaign today released a statement which appears to invite a comparison about the respective governors’ records on education.   This is a comparison the Governor Branstad 2010 campaign is happy to provide.

“Terry Branstad was known as the ‘education governor’ for good reason. His legacy of accomplishment for students, parents, teachers, and schools at all levels is beyond measure,” said Jeff Boeyink, Governor Branstad 2010 campaign manager.

“Contrast this with Governor Culver and his legacy of reckless budget cuts and irresponsible property tax increases.  The only thing consistent about Governor Culver’s education record is his penchant for making and then breaking promises,” concluded Boeyink.

During his tenure as Governor, Terry Branstad:

  • Provided needed resources:  Consistently increased state funding for our schools and increased the share of the state budget devoted to education.
  • Managed through tough times:  Ensured Iowa was one of

Culver offers more hollow promises in speech to school administrators

(URBANDALE) – Governor Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink offered the following response to Gov. Culver’s election-year address today to school administrators in Des Moines:

“Gov. Branstad’s goal is to again make Iowa’s education system the best in the country.  In the coming weeks, we will be unveiling Terry Branstad’s education agenda and how his administration will achieve this ambitious goal.

“Governor Culver has failed to keep his many educational promises to teachers, students, and parents, and today again offered more of the same.  He has failed teachers with his slashing of school budgets and the significant teacher layoffs that has caused across the state.  He has failed school boards with a Race to the Top effort that didn’t bring a single dollar of additional resources for our schools but still shackles local districts with more regulations.  And, Governor Culver has failed parents by signing legislation that means parents will be receiving less information about the performance of their children and their children’s school[1]

“Gov. Culver has broken too many of his educational promises to be trusted to get… read more  →
