Our Lieutenant Governor Pick

The following email was sent today from Governor Branstad 2010 Campaign Manager Jeff Boeyink:

Dear Friends,

Wow! What a week it has been!

Gov. Branstad boarded the Comeback Express last Thursday, joining RPI Chairman Matt Strawn, State Treasurer candidate Dave Jamison, Secretary of State candidate Matt Schultz and Attorney General candidate Brenna Findley for a statewide tour.

The crowds we saw were FIRED UP!

They, along with our outstanding State Auditor, David Vaudt, and Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, make up what we are calling “Iowa’s Team.”

This is because they stand for Iowa’s values: Transparency in government, balanced budgets, creating jobs, strengthening our families and making Iowa the best it can be. Simply put, they want an Iowa that’s as good as its people.

There is one role that’s left to be filled: Gov. Branstad’s Lieutenant Governor. This selection is one that Terry Branstad takes very seriously, because this person will round out Iowa’s team and have the leadership capabilities to help us move Iowa forward. Gov. Branstad will make his selection known prior to the Republican Convention on… read more  →

Rasmussen: Branstad 57% – Culver 31%

Rasmussen has the first post-primary poll out today. In it, Terry Branstad leads Gov. Culver by 26 points, 57% to 31%.

In their analysis, they state:

Republican Terry Branstad appears well on his way at this point to an unprecedented fifth term as governor of Iowa.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Iowa shows Branstad earning 57% support, while his Democratic opponent, current Governor Chet Culver, gets 31% of the vote. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) more remain undecided.

This is Branstad’s best showing and Culver’s worst in surveys going back to last September. In late April, Branstad posted a 53% to 38% lead over Culver.

The Iowa Vision 2020 conference successfully kicks off!

Gov. Branstad invited 100 Iowans from across the state to his Iowa Vision 2020 conference today. In this picture, State Auditor Dave Vaudt is informing participants of Iowa’s state budget realities. For more pictures, click HERE.

The conference will identify the challenges Iowa faces, and the solutions needed in order to lead us through this decade.

Here are Gov. Branstad’s opening remarks from the conference:

Welcome to the Iowa Vision 2020 Policy Conference.  Thank you for taking the time to help me in our continuing effort to develop a strategic vision for Iowa and chart a course to a prosperous future.

We have the talent in this state and in this very room for solving the big challenges facing our state.

Our campaign for Governor is about the future and building a better Iowa.

To that end, I have laid out four ambitious goals:

  1. 200,000 new jobs for Iowans
  2. Reduce the cost of government by at LEAST 15%
  3. Increase family incomes by 25%
  4. Restore Iowa’s place as the best place to educate our children

Branstad takes on liberal group with new TV ad

(URBANDALE, Iowa) – Former Gov. Terry Branstad today released a new ad designed to counter the misleading criticisms of Iowans for Responsible Government, led by Culver donor and former Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rob Tully.

The misleading ads began two days ago as part of a larger campaign, including mailers, to discredit Branstad leading up to the June 8 primary.

The Branstad response can be found here: http://www.governorbranstad2010.com/together. The ad buy begins today and coincides with the Iowans for Responsible Government buy, which is primarily on Fox News and cable.

“With Rob Tully leading this Democrat front group on behalf of Chet Culver, Iowa Republicans already have reason to dismiss these ads as desperate politics from those fearful of a Branstad candidacy and what that means for Republican prospects, statewide, this fall,” said Branstad 2010 Campaign Manager Jeff Boeyink.

The script for the ad is as follows:

You know, I know the folks in Iowa pretty well, and I know they won’t be fooled by ridiculous attack ads run by liberal front groups.

Iowans know me pretty well too.read more  →
