Branstad announces candidacy for Governor during comeback tour

From the Denison Bulletin-Review: Former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad officially announced his campaign to challenge incumbent Governor Chet Culver in the November 2, 2010 election during a four-day tour last week.

While in Denison on Friday, Branstad said, “I’m here today to talk about my vision and my goals for the future of Iowa. We’re facing a tough and challenging time right now.”

Branstad immediately cited the economic situation including the budget shortfall and unemployment as critical issues.

“I was governor during the farm crisis in the ‘80s,” he remarked. “We had, at that time, 8.5 percent unemployment.”

When Branstad left office unemployment was reduced; he cited the statistic of 2.5 percent.
