SCENES FROM THE TRAIL: Smokey Row

Smokey Row Coffee House, on the square in Pella, is where we held our second “Iowa Comeback Tour” event last week.

From the Pella Chronicle (link): In front of a full house at Smokey Row in Pella on Tuesday, former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad declared he wants back in the game.

Earlier in the day, in Des Moines, Branstad made the official announcement of his intentions of running for Governor of Iowa.

At an event held at the Iowa State Historical Building in Des Moines, Branstad began his four-day, 17-city “Iowa Comeback Tour” – which included a stop in Pella on Tuesday afternoon.

“I want to get Iowa back on track,” Branstad said. “My mission is to get jobs back in Iowa, to increase Iowa family income by 25 percent over the next five years, and to restore fiscal responsibility to this state. We need to get back to economic growth and opportunity. There is a great spirit in this state and Pella is such a great, welcoming community. I look forward to coming back.”
